AAUW awards scholarships to three local women

Three scholarships have been awarded by the American Association of University Women Wyandotte-Downriver Branch.

Annette Haley, AAUW scholarship chairwoman, presented the awards during a May 10 event held at Downriver Italian-American Club in Wyandotte.
Karen Boshell of Trenton received a $1,000 scholarship. She is pursuing a nursing degree at Wayne County Community College District where she has a 3.91 grade point average.
The married mother of two works as a clerk and is very active and involved at her children's school, as well as a member of Phi Theta Kappa, an honor society at WCCC.
Kelly Klug of Lincoln Park also received a $1,000 scholarship. Klug is studying at Madonna University where she has a 3.28 GPA.
Klug is a mother of four and wants to become a teacher. She also is active at her church and a member of Kappa Gamma Pi, a Catholic university honor society.
A $500 scholarship award went to Kelsey Roebke of Grosse Ile. Roebke is a sophomore at Wayne State University where she is studying biology. She plans to become a physician's assistant. She also has done volunteer work for the Detroit Rescue Mission, All Saints Soup Kitchen and the Interactive Club.
The AAUW chapter also installed new officers. They are Elsa Jarosz, membership vice president; Linda Wulff, financial vice president; and Jill Hurlbert, senior director.
