Roth, who has been the curriculum director for five years, said that it is time for her to retire and fulfill personal needs, including traveling and taking up rowing and fencing.
Roth started her career as a high school English teacher. She then was the associate superintendent for curriculum and instruction for the Southfield schools.
Roth then went to Skylight Publishing and Training in Chicago.
In that position, she conducted curriculum and development seminars all over the country, which is how Roth acquired the job of curriculum director for the Grosse Ile school district.
Five years ago, Roth said she was conducting a seminar on Grosse Ile for the district. The superintendent at the time, Peter Dion, asked if she would fill in for the curriculum director who recently left.
Supt. Dena Dardzinski said that she has, "really come to appreciate her experience and organization ability and her commitment to Grosse Ile."
Roth oversees all things academic by working closely with the school board, superintendent, principals and teachers.
Roth said that the district gives her a vision and expectations for the curriculum. Roth then follows those visions.
Roth also makes sure that all of the curriculum for the Grosse Ile schools line up with the curriculum set by the state.
Along with preparing curriculum, Roth also helps mentor new teachers and is chairwoman of the Emergency Planning Committee.
Roth said that she has enjoyed working for the Grosse Ile school district.
"She is a wonderful (colleague) and will be missed here," Dardzinski said.
