Written by Howard Ashman and Alan Menken the song-writing team that composed "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," and "The Little Mermaid" "Little Shop of Horrors" is an irreverent musical with a funny book and a musical score that is inspired by the early days of rock 'n' roll.
The musical, based on the 1960 science fiction movie of the same name, takes place down on Skid Row.
Seymour, a shy clerk in Mushnik's Flower Shop, loves Audrey, whose romantic taste in men runs a little on the rough side, but she is flattered when Seymour names his new plant Audrey II in her honor.
However, the plant only thrives when it is fed blood, and when Audrey's boyfriend, Orin, a sadistic dentist, abuses her one time too many, Seymour feeds him to Audrey II.
As the plant grows, it has the miraculous power to reward all of Seymour's heart's desires.
But the voracious plant needs more and more blood, and, eventually, Seymour must stop it before it can do any more harm. Will he succeed? Or will the man-eating plant consume the entire cast? Is the plant really an alien from outer space?
These spine-tingling questions are answered in the unexpected finale!
The role of Seymour will be played by sophomore Zack Arp-Barnett, while Audrey will be portrayed by senior Lara Semetko.
Junior Craig Carrico will act the role of Mushnik and senior Alex Barill will play the sadistic dentist.
Seniors Lisa Semetko and Zach Angileri will bring the plant to life.
Senior Kirsten Sparks and sophomores Liz Campbell and Brooke Upholzer will become Skid Row's answer to the Supremes as they form a doo-wop backup group for the musical numbers.
Allyson Bozenski, Jerome Borthwell, Samantha Coponen, Alex Griffith, Cjersti Jensen, Zack Kowalski, Anna Mucci, Bradley Rito, Kim Ottoni, Danny Tamsen, Jordan Raithel, Ryan Widner, Kristina Serb, Emma Taylor and Kelly Thiede will become the denizens of Skid Row.
The play will be directed and designed by Stephen Kiersey with assistance from Deb Schaller.
The music duties will be handled by Colleen Curran and Nate Bearinger. The choreographer is Seth Miller. Junior Kristine Dowhan is acting as the company stage manager.
Tickets will be available at the door. The cost is $10 for adults, $7 for students, and senior citizens will be able to find out how to save the world for $5.
