Tax hardship extension
Recognizing that Wayne County residents are facing extraordinarily tough economic times due to a troubled state and local economy, Wayne County Treasurer Raymond Wojtowicz has extended the previous March 15 deadline to file an application for a property tax hardship extension until Wednesday.
Anyone receiving a hardship extension will be granted up to one extra year to pay delinquent 2005 property taxes. Related fees and penalties still will apply.
The treasurer already has received about 735 applications.
Anyone who is facing property tax foreclosure due to unpaid delinquent 2005 taxes needs to know that ignoring the tax bill hoping that it will somehow go away is the worst thing to do, according to the treasurer's office.
Instead, contact the Taxpayer Assistance Section of the Wayne County Treasurer's Office at 1-313-224-6105 for help that includes handling hardship applications.

Citizen of the Year
The Grosse Ile Rotary Club is asking for nominations for the next Citizen of the Year.
The award is presented annually by the club. The program is now in its 48th year.

The service includes participation in community affairs such as school organizations, public office, church work, youth work or any volunteer activity that benefits the island population.
Each of the past recipients has made the island a better place to live without expecting reward or attention.

Written nominations should be submitted to Grosse Ile Rotary Club, P.O. Box 125, Grosse Ile, MI 48138.
