Land Conservancy goes hands-on with new event
PUBLISHED: April 15, 2005
The Grosse Ile Nature and Land Conservancy is offering a program of hands-on environmental education to the community between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. April 23. All ages, from pre-K to gray, are invited to visit the Nature Area on East River Road, about a half mile south of Groh Road.

Stop by to join other community members in walking the myriad trails, see spring erupting and view the environment of Grosse Ile.
The conservancy will have hands-on field activities to engage interest and expand residents' environmental awareness.
The organization was recently awarded funds by the Grosse Ile Educational Foundation to purchase supplies and equipment for its environmental education programs to benefit both the community and school- age children.
There will be several stations set up for soil and water testing along with nature guides to discuss the special features along the trails at the Nature Area.
If weather permits, there also will be a herpetologist on hand from 10 a.m. to noon with live reptiles and amphibians. The snakes and turtles usually grab the attention and interest of the younger visitors, organizers said.
The goal of all of the Earth Day activities is to provide an appreciation and healthy respect for wildlife and the fragile ecosystem, according to the conservancy.
