Devils fall in semifinals

With three starters out of the lineup, Grosse Ile Coach Sara Slater knew her team was facing a tall task in Saturday's Class B district semifinal.

Though it ended in defeat, she still was proud.
"We played well," she said of the four-game loss to Huron League rival Riverview.
"Everyone played hard the whole way."
The Pirates won the first two games, 25-13 and 25-14, but Grosse Ile came back to take the third, 25-18.
The Devils put up a fight before falling 25-20 in what proved to be the deciding game.
Gabrielle Giles had six blocks and six kills for the Devils, who also got 11 assists from Tara Brin, 12 digs from Jen Louzon and eight kills and seven digs from Kelsie Kuppe.
Riverview went on to defeat host Carlson in the final to claim its second straight district championship.
