Devils are state qualifiers

Four Downriver competitive cheerleading squads advanced to the state finals that will be held Friday and Saturday.

Anderson, Allen Park and Grosse Ile all won their regions, while Carlson was a regional runner-up.
Division 1 Anderson captured first-place honors in Region 2.
The Titans were able to overcome an injury suffered during a Friday practice and earn their second highest point total in the last 13 years of competition.
"We had to make changes," coach Colette Norscia said referring to the injury. "It was a small miracle. I am thrilled. (The girls) gave it 110 percent for sure."
Anderson team members are: Carly Barager, Heather Boley, Samantha Brannan, Nicole Bunch, Paige Chretien, Abagael Ciak, Kristie Dupuie, Chelsea Foucher, Richelle Gray, Brittany Grzywa, Diane Howe, Ashley Loveday, Victoria Lukasik, Danielle Mitchell, Lauren Molloy, Brittany Murphy, Tiffany Patten, Chelsea Riley, Stacey Shaw, Sarah Valente, Ashley Wilson, Kaitlyn Wolff, Emily Zajas and Ayrn Ziesmer.
Division 2 Allen Park prevailed in Region 7.
The Jaguars team members included: Alyson Bove, Sarah Brayman, Karol Cadorin, Alyssa Cooper, Kasey Farrell, Samantha Flanigan, Jamie Hanik, Ashley Hartman, Chelsea Lachut, Lindsay Loichinger, Rachel Lowry, Courtney Lyons, Sarah Millner, Lindsay Nelson, Amber Ramirez, Erica Roberts, Amanda Royal, Laura Shamie, Gabrielle Sisler, Katelyn Smithson, Breann Tidwell, Kara Tidwell, Ellen Trudell, Cat Wagel, Amber Wiens and coach Julie Goodwin.
Carlson was a bit of a surprise, finishing second to Allen Park in Division 2, Region 7.
Carlson team members are: Sara Ashteneau, Jessica Davies, Jenna Franklin, Brittany Gaynier, Alex Heinzerling, Delayna Herndon, Victoria Hiltz, Sara Jokela, Cara Krzesowik, Samantha Martinez, Courtney McCarary, Kristen Nabozny, Autumn Redfearn, Rachel Sarkody, Ronni Slonina and Lainey Williams.
Grosse Ile, a Division 3 team, won the Region 12 title at Brooklyn Columbia Central.
It was Grosse Ile's first regional cvhampionship since 2004.
"We are very excited to be going to the finals as a regional champ," said Devil Coach Liz Kazik.
The Devils are: Ingvild Brekkhus, Alexa Compeau, Jaclyn Davis, Kaitlyn Fischer, Jessica Hazzard, Megan Hazzard, Laura Hickman, Jessica Jacobs, Jayme Judd, Ashley Kowalski, Michelle Maci, Jennifer Mathison, Maddaline Mikola, Jamey Okler, Sarah Pelts and Melissa Schwandt.
Each of the four divisions have five regions. The top two teams from each region advance to the finals at the Delta Plex in Grand Rapids.
The finals start today at 6 p.m. Tickets are $6 and they are good for the entire day's session.
