The audience filled the gymnasium of Grosse Ile High School recently to watch musical performances by students throughout the school district.
The first annual WinterFest showcased the kindergarten through 12th grade music programs of the Grosse Ile schools.
The program was put on through the efforts of the Grosse Ile schools' musical directors.
Nathan Bearinger led the High School Symphonic Band and Wind Ensemble. The Middle School Symphony Band was directed by Joseph Reimann. The middle and high school choirs were led by Colleen Curran.
The Recorders were led by Barbara Conroy, the second grade Parke Lane Choir by Elaine McElwaney and the Grosse Ile Children's Choir by Conroy, Curran and McElwaney.
The final number of the night was arranged by Bearinger, where all of the ensembles performed together.The finale was a performance of "America the Beautiful."
The program in the gym was the first of its kind for the Grosse Ile music programs, where the ensembles were on stage for the entire concert, therefore avoiding any set changes.
As one ensemble completed its performance the next began.
"We hope to make this an annual event, to showcase our musical programs," said Bearinger, director of bands.
