Grosse Ile's regular season closes; districts are next

Grosse Ile finished its regular season with Monday's straight-game loss to Carleton Airport. The Devils fell 25-20, 25-6, 25-14 to close the books on their Huron League schedule.

Beth Livernois had eight digs, seven kills and five blocks for the Devils, who also got 26 assists from Tara Brin and nine digs from Jen Louzon.
The Devils went 2-1 in pool play at Saturday's News-Herald Invitational at Lincoln Park, knocking off Dearborn Heights Annapolis and Mount Carmel before falling to Trenton.
The second-place finish earned them a trip to the Gold playoffs, which they began with a 25-13, 26-24 win over Anderson.
Huron League rival Riverview ended Grosse Ile's day in the ensuing match, a straight-game defeat.
Brin ended the day with 52 assists while Louzon came up with 28 digs. Kristie Tamer added 21 digs, 12 kills and 10 assists and Livernois had 26 kills six aces and 18 digs.
Grosse Ile also got 24 digs from Lindsey Dixon, 21 kills from Kelsie Kuppe, 16 blocks from Brittney Stevenson and 28 kills and 11 blocks from Gabrielle Giles.
Grosse Ile swept a league match from visiting Flat Rock last Thursday.
Brin had 23 assists and Carly McLaughlin added eight digs. Giles finished with six kills and five blocks.
Grosse Ile goes to Carlson to meet Riverview in a Class B district semifinal. The winner faces either the host Marauders or Huron in the championship match.
